sort by name

I've these list of movies. I want to cut them in 3 parts. One with names starting from A-h, another I-R and last one in S-Z. How to query databse for that, i.e.
$sqlstr="SELECT ????";
so that only names starting from A-H is shown???Plz help

Depends on your database software, but...

For A through H, 'Select where name matches "[ABCDEFGH]*";'

retrieves all records who name begins with those letters.
