Wait for PHP to finish...

Hey,

Does anyone know of a way that I can tell my user to wait while PHP does some processing (25 seconds), and then output the info, or re-direct to another screen?

take a look at flush()

if i remember correctly you can use multipart mime headers to send data then redirect the user to another page. or you could use a javascript onLoad() event on a image to set the location to another page. user sees "Please Wait....", wait 25 seconds, sees an image appear and the page finished loading. javascript kicks in and sends the user to another page.

very interesting, but can't users set their timeouts to less than 25 seconds?

No, Apache is timing out. Users wont have access to that timer.

I did it using FLUSH().
It works great. Except that you have to send a couple hundred blank spaces before flushing. (Some browsers wont print to the screen unless 256bytes have been accumulated.)

i like the idea a lot, but most stuff i do is intranet and all the user would see is a flash 🙂

but i do notice a lot of online banks use this.
