Ok, explorer view you know what it looks like..
I want to put that on my page...
To be able to view there directory on the server.... is this possible ?? I am unsure.... but think it is let me know

I am trying to make it so I dont need a ftp service running.. If i can get away from that it is one less secuerty issue that I half to worry about

I would not get too happy, read the FAQ:

"To prohibit the application access except for you or for other person, it is necessary to set up the access limitation of your Web server"

"Indeed no function of security exists in order to regulate writing or reading rights."

"If you don't limit the access of PhpMyExplorer, this application becomes a true hole of security. Indeed, any person who takes note of the presence of this application on your site can modify the contents or even erase the totality of your site."

Just like all of us have been saying: HTTP is NOT the protocol to use if you want to manage files, especially not if you want to handle files from different users.

Vincent, why do you think this is such a problem? Obviously you should not run this on a public server using an unsecured location, but it only takes a moment to secure a directory using HTTP BASIC authentication.

As for the multiple-user issue, PhpMyExplorer has a multiuser version that controls access to both shared and personal editable spaces, based on authenticated usernames.

Sorry, my mistake, I couldn't find that part on the website. That was my main concern, the multi-user part.

But still, I am not a big fan of these interfaces. They are cute and very cleverly created, but they don't allow the one thing that you definately need: uploading of more than one file at a time. What is a poor webmaster supposed to do when he has a website that contains 536 images and 467 static html pages?

I wonder how they do the user rights though. sudo? does the webserver run as root? lol

I guess I'm just oldfashioned. FTP works, it does everything but move subdirectories, and it's faster than http. oh wel...

I think PHPMyExplorer implements its own access control, independent of user identity at the OS level.

I agree with you about FTP ... why not just use that? But there's no accounting for customer preferences. We recently had a commercial contract that required building a Web-based file-management system. We took the money, but WSFTP would have been a lot cheaper.
