fopen to check if file exists

I am using this function:

function isAfile($url){
$fp = @fopen("$url","r");
if ($fp)
{ //print "The file exists!";
return 1; }
else
{ //print "The file does not exist";
return 0; }
}

to check if a remote file exists... now the problem is that the URL's i am trying to check are in this way:
http://waptopic.supereva.it/loghiesuonerie.it/LogoGen.php?id=1100
The problem is that LogoGen.php exists but depending on the ID the image may exists or not.
How can i actually check if the image exists?

One way you could do this is to write a script that uses a post
method to

Hypothetical => LogoGENsee.php

Send the image id=1100 to this script

Have LogoGENsee.php check see if the image exists
if so return ok and do further processing your end

Obviously you need access to the waptonic server for this
but this could work

So you don't want to know if that URL exists, you want to know what it returns.

In that case you will have to read from the $fp and see if it starts with image headers or not.

maybe instead of using fopen; you can do file_exists():

function isAfile($url) {
if(file_exists($url)) {
return 1;
} else {
return 0;
}
}

Besides, the questions was not 'can I make sure the remote file exists', but 'can I make sure it returns an image and not something else.

file_exists still returns always 1 since this file LogoGen.php actually exists...
unfortunately i had tried it before but didn't work as i expected!

Just read from the filepointer like you would on a normal file.

i read the manual... in fact the funciont i was using was fopen and not file_exists!
