enabling users to use carriage returns

Hi there,

I'm in the process of creating a site and I've stumbled accross a problem that I can't quite solve. Here's what's wrong - I've got a guestbook, and also a news system. When the user inputs text, regardless as of whether they press the return key it appears all on the same line. How do i get around this? Basically i want to turn this:

"Hi, Love your site! Sincerely, Whoever"

into this:-

"Hi,
Love your site!

Sincerely,
Whoever".

Carriage returns are meaningless in HTML. If you want to transform them into something meaningful, use one of the several dozen PHP functions that perform search-and-replace operations, and transform them into <BR> or <P>.

I prefer to look for doubled returns (blank lines) and transform that into a paragraph tag.

Yup.. that should work.. just like using Replace(string, vbCRLF, "<BR>"), etc...

Uhm, I'd suggest just using nl2br() instead of the Visual basic/ASP function.
