Executing program in Intranet

Hi folks,

I´ve got a problem: We are using an Intranet and my PC is running as a Server under Win NT, with Apache 1.3.22 and PHP 4.0.6 installed. Believe it or not, but it works.
I want to execute a exe-program in the intranet, (on a drive in the network called x:) not on my server, but on the client!
Now, everytime when somebody in the intranet tries to open the page, the exe-program pops up on my pc(=server), and thats useless.
Is there a way to solve this problem?

How is set up your URL pointing on the file ?

Yes, it is set up this way. Now it works, but unfortunately there is always a pop-up asking "what do you want to do? -save, execute, cancel", you know it.
By the way, i dont want to spread a virus, but allow certain users creating and editing html-files and putting them on my site, by using an html-editor(exe-file)

Excuse me, I was joking. Not intend to hurt you.

I don't think you can avoid the popup
(it's there for security reason, especially
to avoid the automatic installation of virus
trojan horses, and so on, when users surf on
the web, so ...)

If you want to "share" such an executable, then the best solution is really to share
it; i.e. in a shared directory on the network

If you want do to some link from the HTML
page, may be you can use
<A HREF="c:\winnt\explorer.exe x:\editor.exe"

Editor </A>

but I have doubt it will work

(otherwise, simply explain in the HTML page how to get the executable on the network:
"Lauch Explorer, go to ..." you see)

Yes, you are right, it´ll be the best and simplest solution to tell them where they can execute the html-editor. Actually, there´s no need to launch the editor automatically.
