"@" preceding function calls

Hi,

I was just wondering what:

@function()

does as opposed to just calling the function without the "@".

I've seen this used a couple of times, and can't seem to find any mention of this. Looked in php documentation and various books.

This deal with error handling : add a @
prevent PHP to display the usual error
message (leaking some precious informations
for a hacker + disturbing a regular user)
and give you complete control on error
handling (on the other hand, you have to check carefully for errors arising, otherwise, error can happen and nobody
will see it !)
