i have powerpoint files behind my security system... when an authenticated user requests the file, i set this header:
application/vnd.ms-powerpoint
and then pass throught the file.
if powerpoint is open it works fine, and the file opens in powerpoint... if powerpoint is closed, the download window comes up, the file downloads, and then nothing happens.
if i do 'save as' it works fine, and i can open the file.
the IT staff changed the IE registry settings according to microsofts instructions so ppt files will open an external powerpoint instead of opening in the browser.
i am having this problem with IE 5 and Powerpoint 97 SR 2.
any suggestions? workarounds?
