getting user's systems information

Hi,

I am trying to start building a site that will help me keep track of users computer information for warranty work.

I am trying to run a script similar to how dell does on their support section that will tell processor, ram, hd's, network cards, cd drives, etc...

I didnt think there is a way to do this in php, but what is my best way of going about this?

Could you prove a URL to the relevant page on Dell's site? I'd really like to see them try and suck hardware specifications off my machine...

go to dell.com

click on support, choose whatever, then just choose any system, doesnt matter

then on the left side of the screed there is a configuration link click on that

For a mac i would just have them print out a system profile and put that in a text blob and the same for linux with a dmesg. but for a average windows user just want a easy way for them to submit there information

Well its not that hard. Every time you load your browser software it gathers a lot of irellivent information (for the browser that is) and makes it available to the proc user.

The only way dell are able to do this is by asking you to download a program which scans a vulnerable windows registry (and when i say vulnerable i mean windows in general, even NT allows this) and then pipes you the data.

You can do this in javascript, a very complex javascript i might add but not maybe as much information as you want.
