Directory and $REQUEST_URI

Hi. I made a similar post some time ago but i didn't get any answer, so sorry for insisting. It's vital 🙂
Let's say i have this url:
http://mysite.com/dir1/index.php?...&...

How can i find if i'm in dir1 or dir2 respectively, or in any depth of these directories? I need the first directory in the URL so that i know my location.

I tried with $REQUEST_URI but i couldn't make it work.
A piece of code would be appreciated.

$PHP_SELF will give you the page you are at. With some easy parsing you'll get what you need.
