Updating Text Files

I am VERY much a beginner to PHP, so please bear with me...

I am using PHP to log user entries on my site and I need to be able to open that file up and change any of the variables without having to completely re-write the file. Can anyone help??!?!?

The text file would look something like this:

name1=bob&score1=53&email1=[e-mail]&
name2=mary&score2=64&email2=[e-mail]

If I want to change Bob's email to a new one, how would I go about doing that without having to completely re-write the file?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?!?!?!??!

Looks like where both hunting for the same solution, so far today I done research on where I am going wrong with my script. What I have found out but still buggy is you must open the file, count the rows and select the row you wish to edit.

Once I get it figured i'll let you know..

Anyone else figured out this process?
