Dynamic select dropdown menu

Hello,

I've got a select dropdown menu with 25 items. When an item is selected a different page is loaded. On this page the select-menu also appears. The idea is now that the item associated with the current page is selected (<OPTION name="item1" value="item1" selected>). How do I do this efficiently?
