Time compare in PHP question

Hi,

Can anyone help me with a snippet to compare two timestamps in PHP - basically I need something that gives a result like..

"this page was last updated 1 day, 8 hours, 34 minutes and 10 seconds ago"

I've tried a number of ways, but I keep getting silly figures as my output.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

substract and devide I think.
in pseudo code:
$diff = $now-$then;
$days = floor($diff/(246060));
$diff = $diff - ($days(246060));
$hours = floor($diff/(6060));
$diff = $diff - ($hours(6060));
etc... etc.. for minutes and seconds.
