PHP and Shell commands ?

Hi everyone,

first of all merry christmas !!! Secondly i have a Q about php in combination with executing shell commands. Is there a possibility to do such a thing ? If there is i would be glad for a simple example such as a ping to a certain host or something similar.

PHP has a set of functions to handle executing shell commands. see the link above
