i am working on creating a news site(php/mysql) & need a bit of help/advise/suggestion with a problem.
Like all news sites, when one enters an article, they select a topic area/category that the news items refers to & submit the article & that article is only available to view in that topic area . What i want to try and create is when one enters an article, they select the primary topic area , but also they can put a tick in a box, that says that make this article available in topic areas x,y,z . i want to avoid having to enter the articles multiple times in multiple sections. based on the initial design of the database, i have two tables, one with the various topic area & their ids, & the other is the main story table with foreign key linked to the topicid field from the topics table.
can someone offer suggestions on how to do this. i think the database design needs to be refined/split, but at present have not got a clue on where to start.
