Session ID's

Why does this not give me a session id in the query string?

Example of what does appear: http://localhost/jotr/cmp/index.php?<?php%20print%20SID;%20?>

The SID variable is not being parsed, why?

because you are trying to put a PHP block inside a PHP block.

This makes no sense:
header( "Location: ../cmp/index.php?<?php print SID; ?>" );

try this instead:
header( "Location: ../cmp/index.php?PHPSESSID=".session_id());

FYI - I had to do the following in order for it to work, otherwise it would not parse correctly:

$hlink = "Location: ../cmp/index.php?PHPSESSID=" .session_id();
header ( "$hlink" );
