making a link to the world

Here is a really short snipit of my link question.

<a href=profile.php>$username</a><

What i want this to do is link to a profile of $username. The $username came up from a search page where a visitor can search for a person and then click on this link to see their profile.. I know this is a loaded question but i don't know where to start.

Start by making the link like so:

print "<a href=\"profile.php?uname=" . $username . "\">" . $username . "</a>";

This will pass your "profile.php" script the actual username in a variable called "uname". Your script can then use this variable to extract the relevant user information from the DB.
