Does anyone know how it can be done, where a script can monitor a NT/2000 Box?
What I mean is like a script that can contact a windows nt/2000 box, query the service manager about a service and see the message returned. I know of some commerical software that does it, so its not like I can go digging through their code and figure it out 
Purpose of this would mainly be that of an alert script. Checks the list of services and depending on the message returned sends a alert to the user.
