Replace part of a string..

Hi everyone.

Here what I need to do. I have a string and I want to replace all url of this form in the string: http://www.mysite.com/members.php?ACCOUNT_NAME

with this:
<a href=http://www.mysite.com/members.php?ACCOUNT_NAME>str_replace</A>

I believe its possible with str_replace but I don't know how to play with the ACCOUNT_NAME witch is a variable and may change.. any idea? thanks

Correction:

I need to replace the string with this:

<a href=http://www.mysite.com/members.php?ACCOUNT_NAME>ACCOUNT_NAME</A>

$var2=preg_replace("/((http:\/\/).*?)\s/i","<a href=\1>\1</a> ",$var1);

Thanks for your reply but no it doesn't work! I read more about it but i'm stuck with the regular expression. I only want to make a link from a url when the domain is mysite.com and I need to find a way to get the variable in the url after the (?). I guess it would look something like this but my regular expression is missing something... ??

$more=preg_replace("/(http:\/\/www.mysite.com/members.php?)(.*?)\s/i","<a href=\1>\2</a> ",$more);

You don't have to actually 'replace' do you? Can't you simply 'add to'?

Check it out:

$newstring = "<a href=" . $oldstring . ">str_replace</A> ";

Does that not do the trick?

Actually, the more I read your question the less it seems I understand what it is you are trying to accomplish.

maybe this works:

$more=preg_replace("/((http:\/\/www.mysite.com){1}?(.?)(ACCOUNT_NAME=){1}?\?(.?))\s/i","<a href=\1>\5</a> ",$more);

I didn't test it, but if all works well it makes a link wich links to the complete url (including the GET variables) and places the value of the variabele 'ACCOUNT_NAME' as diplay text.

Is this what you needed?

(in my former post i assumed you just wanted to take a complete url out of some text and make it a link. sorry.)
