Null date in postgres

how can i enter a null date in a field of type null.
Any pointers will be highly appreciated

Umm, try not entering anything, or just NULL in your sql statement.....

not entering any thing works, but NULL does not. But i can not use the 1st one because i've to enter somethings in the database based on the user input thru a form
