Trouble with event handler

I've been developing a page for analyzing movies of people walking:

I use the mouse position to record the position of the joints. I have a mouseMove event handler to update the coordinates of the cursor, and a mouseDown handler to detect the identification of a joint (white dots on the person).

This is working reasonably well, except for the first click. For soem reason, my mouseMove handler only starts working after the first click. Anybody figure what I'm doing wrong?

It normally ignores mousemove events, so it might not notice when the mouse enters the screen where you have the mousemove event handler. Just a guess, but see if catching the onmouseover event when it enters the screen wakes it up the same as the onclick event does.
