Why would you want to use a Database?

Does anyone know of where any interesting articles lay on defining the needs of why websites operate better with Databases, and, or have a need to function with a database, or have any good advice, comments, or suggestions.

Also, does anyone know the real reason why Database servers, separate from a web server is usually the best solution, and, or have any input, comments, or suggestions.

A database is a collection of information. A DBMS is a system to manage a database. If your website has data that needs to be managed, a DataBase Management System will probably help manage the data. Millions of websites operate fine without databases.

Are you really asking what are the costs/benefits of using a DBMS versus something else? If so, the answer is "It depends". What are you doing? What data do you have?

DB server separate from web server might be better. It depends. What is constraining you? Cost? Throughput? Response time?
