Timestamp

i have a variable timestamp on my mysql database. then when i retrieve the date, it doesn't give me the system date but this date
Wed 31 December 1969 15:59:59, always this date.

How can i change it in the actual input time and date?

insert into table date_field values('now()');

This will insert current date and time.
