how to sort a 3(or 2)-dimensional array?

hi all,
i hope someone find my problem easy or interresting and feel motivated...

i want to sort an array, which looks like this:

$daten[$x][$z] = $z

$x are numbers
$z are names which exists for every value of $x
$z are the values of the array

i got for every value of $x, with the value "y" for $z a value of $z

this value of $z is a number, i want to use to sort the array.
