Comparing tables

I've got two tables, Artist and albums. The albums table contains all albums, these are linked to the artist table via the artistID ( primary key )column. I want to find out what artists don't have an album!

I thought something like this would work:

SELECT * FROM artist,albums WHERE albums.artistname <> artist.artistID

The column name match up so the problems not there but it won't yeild any results. Do I need to nest some querys, compare two arrays against each other ( how?? ) or is there another trick.

Any help would be much appreicated.

Give this a shot:

SELECT artists.* FROM artists LEFT JOIN albums ON artists.artistID=albums.artistID WHERE albums.artistID IS NULL
