Variable varibles with arrays

Hi,

I've recently used variable variables and found themn to be very useful, but I have a problem with creating a series of arrays with incrementating names.
This is actually for making multiple lines on a single graph with jpgraph, so I can't use multidimensional arrays.

This is what I have presently:

while ($results=mysql_fetch_array($$i)) {
$xdata[]=$results[0]; //this line ok because only need one set of xdata
//$graph_array[$i][]=$results[1]; this extracts all the sets of ydata but then ypgraph can only use single dimensional arrays, so commented out
$$ydata[]=$results[1]; - I wanted something like this, or:
ydata.$i[]=$results[1]; but neither of them work
}

Any ideas?

According to www.php.net's online documentation you might have to do this:

$($ydata[])=$results[1];

($$ydata)[]=$results[1];

Neither of these solutions seem to work - the first giving a straight parse error, and the second giving Parse error: parse error, expecting T_VARIABLE' or'$'' in /var/www/html/it/tracking/temp.php on line 48 - which I'm not too sure how to interpret.

However, browsing the archives I've found:

$this->ydata[]=$results[1];

Now this doesn't error, but I'm not sure what $this refers to, and using var_dump gives NULL. So I changed it to:

$i->ydata[]=$results[1]; - this also does not error, so any tips on what it means and how I reference the varibles I've created?! I've no idea what they'll be called now!!

this '$this->' is a reference to an onject variable, which you are not usuing so it doesn't do you any good. You want variable variables.

you want this: ${$ydata}[]

Ok here is where I am now.

$field = "'" . $dbcnx->f("result_field_name") . "'";
$array = "result[$field]";
echo "$$array<br>";

This produces a string of "$result['language_id']"

Now I want to now if the variable with the same name has any data.

Any ideas?
