I need to add a total of 4 groups to my login section, Admin (me), editor, author,user or guest. My question is How would I get individual menus for the groups. I am thinking of placing these text/graphic links (buttons) below the banner in a single cell right justified. Example: Admin would have a link to administer members and all functions of site, editor, could delete, add articles, author could add articles for editor or admin to authorize, user to be able to login/register.

This is too time consuming to explain here. But, if there are any good examples I could 'borrow' and expand some of my php knowledge, I would sure appreciate any help.

it's easy with session variables: after login and successful uid/pwd check, store id and password in session variables. on top of each script of your site, check again if they're valid (put this into a function) and read out the privileges field in your user table.

depending on the privileges, show the menu (or whatever) that's suitable for the type of user, which is defined by his privileges.

your user table should look like this (e.g.):

id
nick
password
privileges
