I cannot get the following code to work:

$found = copy($image_address, $local_image_address) or die("Couldn't copy file.");

with this error:

Warning: Unable to open 'http://images.sola.com/images/P/0898866510.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg' for reading: No such file or directory in /usr/www/users/beka/cs/catalog/bookimages/getimages.php on line 29

Does this mean that sola has a clever way of knowing that I am looking for that image, but not through a browser, or does it mean that the copy command is not getting the address right? Like, is it looking for the address in the local directory?

Well as far as I can tell images.sola.com doesn't exist, but are you sure copy() can read from HTTP connections and not just the local filesystem?

Can copy(); read from HTTP connections and not just the local filesystem?

If it can't, how do I read from HTTP connections? fopen, fread? If so, what if the directory is not HTTP readable, but the file is?

No dice. Maybe this is not the type of thing php can do? python maybe?
