$PHP_SELF on Windows

I am writing a script with a lot of links that require $PHP_SELF, but $PHP_SELF is not available on Windows. How do you deal with that?

$PHP_SELF is definitly available on Windows.
The problem lies somewhere else.

The manual says

$PHP_SELF
The filename of the currently executing script, relative to the document root. If PHP is running as a command-line processor, this variable is not available.

If executed via a browser $PHP_SELF is there.
Did you verify with phpinfo()?

In that case I should get an error saying the variable doesn't exist. What happens instead is nothing is printed. Blank, zilch, nada.

I have PHP running as a command-line processor, not as a server module. So I guess that means it is just not available in my Windows setup.

If your referencing the var in a function--you must declare it as a global...

global $PHP_SELF;

You should maybe try Apache on windows. It is cake to setup and runs very well. I ported an app from apache/linux to apache/windows and only had to add error_reporting(7) line to code.
