Update Statement BIG?

Can anyone help me out with this one?
I have the script done. I just need someone to show how do you use the UPDATE function? Cause its kinda confusing....well to me atleast. So can anyone help me out with this little glitch? Thanks!

Here is my code:

$oldrank = $row["rank"];
$newrank = $oldrank + $rank1;

$newerrank = $newrank/$newusers;

print("$newrank");
$super = "Update general where bus_name='$businessname' SET users='$newusers' , rank='$newerrank'";

The WHERE clause comes after the SET, according to the documentation. I'm not sure if it matters, but I've never seen it the way you wrote it...so try reversing them:

$super = "Update general SET users='$newusers' , rank='$newerrank' where bus_name='$businessname' ";

Also, for next time, you should tells us what error you're getting (parse error, MySQL error, etc). It helps you help you.

I also noted that you had your $variable inside of single quotes.

If $variable = 5,

then '$variable' will return $variable, not 5 because it doesn't see inside the ' sign.
