Retrieving variables from other files

Hello,

i have a little problem:
I'm making a game on internet and i want the games to logon. The usernr they use is needed to search the database several times. I planned to store it in a file which doesn't change i.e. the top file. If i could then later retrieve this variable from the top file, i wouldn't have to continiuosly make these links:

home.php?usernr=234

This allows the users to see their number and makes it easier to see other users' pages. E.g. they type:
home.php?usernr=935
This is another usernr.

I need help. How can i store a variable somewhere so the users can't see it, but I can use it to select from a database.

To get you started - on each page where you want to set or use $usernr:

<?php
session_start();
session_register('usernr');
...stuff probably involving $usernr...
?>

If you're selecting the same things over and over again from the database, you might want to consider storing some of them in session variables as well.
