A tricky question - I'm setting up a script in which the info on an image already exists in a database, but the image itself still has to uploaded. I would like someone accessing the upload form to have the path of the image already 'pasted' into the form's file field, so they don't have to browse their harddisk. The image would be uploaded from a cd-rom, so the correct path to it is provided from the dbase.

I can't find any way of doing this 'pasting' in javascript, so could the file-path be pre-set in PHP?

No. Not in PHP, not in javascript, not in HTML.
And why not?
Because hackers could easily create an upload page that has your password-data defined in the browse box, and use javascript to automatically submit the form, thus stealing your secret data without you being able to do anything about it.

I thought about this too (that's why I didn't get my hopes up). You could download stuff from the standard client's windows map, because you'd have a good guess it was there. I thought maybe there was some safer way I couldn't find.

Actually, there is a way of doing it - as long as you stick to older versions of Netscape, which have a propriety javascript function that deals with this.
