File Limitations

hello,
is there any possible way I can limit the file extensions/types that can be uploaded? My host does not support any audio/video files, so I need to stop people uploading .mp3, .midi etc Is there any way to do this?

When you are uploading the file do an explode around the '.' You can do this because you know the file name. If the extension is not one of a set list of ones that are okay, delete the file.

No. You cannot control which filetypes people can upload, but you can control which filetypes you save to disk.

After the upload has been completed, your script will have to copy the file from it's temporary location to it's destination. At that point you can check the extention and decide wether you want to store the file or delete it.

Is there any type of Javascript that could do this? If the upload filename contains a ".mp3" for example make an alert informing them?

Nope.

A file upload is just a header that get's sent to your webserver. There is no client side way (none whatsoever, not java, not javascript, not anything else) that will let you control what people send you.

All you can do is receive the file and delete it if you don't like it.
