"=&" and "= &new"

I've seen example code that does things like <strong>=&</strong>, but I don't understand what this means. Can anyone help? Also, I've seen <strong>= &new</strong>. Is this similar to the previous question? Thx.

If the URL was like:

script.php?var=&var2

Then it just means that $var is empty, and $var2 also too.

No, this is not in a URL string. The examples that I have seen are in the actual code. For example:

$mail_object =& Mail::factory('mail');

or

$var = &new Object2();

Hey, with those you can make things like < appear on the screen. For instance, if you just put a < in your code, it would cause an error, whether or not you need it to show up on your site. So instead you can type &lt; which will make a < appear when you view your site with a browser. There are several different codes that you can use. Most of them I do not know off the top of my head though 🙂
