how to seperate the numbers?

Hi... I want to know how I can put a comma on the number everytime it reach a thousand... I must declare it as integer because i need to compute it later on...

Here is an example of what i want to achieve:

$250,000 or $145,250 or $122,340

Can someone please help me how to do this? Because when you declare it as an integer you cannot insert comma, so right now what I am getting is like this:

$250000 or $145250 or $122340

Easy just use $formatted=number_format($number, $decimal_places, $decimal_point_char, $thousand_seperator);
