Dynamic menus and text or select boxes i

We are experiencing a problem in our site with dynamic menus.

Since they are made with layers, when a page that has a form (text, select, and other form items) in it, the layers appear beneath these boxes and the users cannot click the link in the dynamic menu.

Our programmer says that there is nothing to do about that except removing the dynamic menus.

Does anyone have a tip for overcoming this “subdue” of the dynamic menus to forms and enable the two to live in the same page peacefully?

Any tips would be great

Err... I'm not sure, but isn't there a z-index-attribute that controls the order of the elements? if not in HTLM, then CSS. And, btw, next time try posting a PHP-related question to get answers.

The form elements in HTML has a nasty quality of being not supported by HTML or CSS. If you have a layer with a form with in it and this layer has a z-index of 5 and a dynamic layer, say a navigation with a z-index of 1. When this layer is displayed the form elements will "shine" through the navigation layer. A pain in the arse??? Yes, but that´s life :-)

Ok, I'm not familiar with the DHTML elements at all, since I do this for a living, and the clients need the page to be viewable in nearly all browsers, and as we know, DHTML isn't that widely supported. The opacity settings aren't any good then?

Thanks for the tips and sorry for posting this problem in "Coding Topic".

We are going to check the z-index-attributes and if something comes up, I'll post here the results.

I´m not sure I understand what you mean with "opacity settings".
DHTML is not a technique, it´s more like a subject field. When you using HTML, client script (like JavaScript), CSS and the HTML DOM, then you can say you are "doing" DHTML. You can make DHTML work in nearly all browsers. Browsers on Linux can be difficult to support, also Opera can be unruly. But Mozilla, Netscape and IE will be no match.

This will not solve the problem of form elements "shining" through. It seems like this elements automaticly gets a higher z-index then all the other elements :-(
