Need help with PHP / MySQL

I need to know 2 things...

The first one is howto print out how many results a search found. For example:

Found 3 results for $searchstring

Anyone knows howto do it?

The second thing i need help with is how to print out how many entries are left, before there is no one left.

For example:

There are 12 entries left of 150.

how do i do that?

didnt worked that good... =/

is there anything thats wrong in it?
cause it didnt printed out how many results there were, it just printed out a 4 for everything... strange?!?
