passing an ip address

I need to pass an ip address, like this:
<a href="http://my.host.com?ip=123.45.123.45">Click Here</a>
However, the browser keeps thinking that I'm trying to go to some site that doesn't exist. Am I supposed to "encode" this string (123.45.123.45) before hand or something?

I've tried urlencode(), htmlspecialchars(), and htmlentities(), but the result is the same...I still end up with what I started with...123.45.123.45....which the browser doesn't like.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi there,
I've just started diving into PHP myself, but here's a piece that worked for me.

<a href="http://<SERVERNAME or IP>/targeted_file.php?ip=123.45.123.45&anothervar='some text'">Click Me</a>

I just linked to the other php-page checking if $ip is present and if so, writing it to the screen.
Doesn't even get stuck with the dots between the numbers.

Add a forwards slash "/" after my.host.com

ie:

<A HREF="http://my.host.com/?ip=123.45.123.45">Click here</A>
