array holding an image?

Hi, I was wondering if I could store images in an array so php can work with them without having to use the gd thingy. Cuz then it would be like a big grid and each array thingy would have the rgb number and php could mess with it then and then use the gd thingy to turn it back into an image. Is this a good idea or what?

THere is no facility in PHP to do this at the moment, but I'm in the process of expanding the GD extensions to work better with raw data. These expansions should give you close to the functionality you need.
