Stupid question - Parsing with

Hi everyone!

Being new to anything isn't much fun. I've come accross another challenge! Hopefully one of you can help me...

I have to parse a return string thats seperated by . Example: name1=value1 name2=value2 name3=value3

I need to not only parse the string, but define variables for each value in the string thats parsed. I'm thinking this should allow me to do what I need to with the values if their variables, correct? IE - Write them to a database, display them in a table to the client, etc - correct?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

try to use the following code:

$a = "x=1 y=2 z=3";

$b = split(' ', $a);

foreach($b as $c)
{
$d = split('=', $c);

$var = $d[0];
$val = $d[1];

$$var = $val;
}

print "$x, $y, $z";

This will fill $lines with an array of strings that were separated by .

$lines = explode(" ", $input);

When I try this, it results in 1,2,3 ....

Maybe If I try to explain again. I know what names are going to be returned. But I won't know the values for each.

The results I have to parse are from curl. The variable that's returned is $result. $result will have the name1=value1 name2=value2 string.

I have to parse the string thats seperated by and then assign a variable to each value so I can save/display each value where I need to.

Does that help clarify? Or have I completely missed something?

BTW- I'm happy to read, if someone can point me in the right direction (url, online manual, etc) I'm happy to go that route too.
