can't find source of parse error

When the following lines of code are executed a parse error is returned (these are moment of interia formulas):

$solid_moment=$solid_weight*((pow($solid_diameter/2),2)/2);

$hollow_moment=$hollow_weight*(((pow($hollow_od/2),2)+(pow($hollow_id/2),2))/2);

I'm reasonably sure I've isolated the parse error to these lines- they're the only two calculations in this particular script. I'm sure I'm looking right at the problem and just can't see it. Any help would be most appreciated.

pow() takes two parameters, so intead of this:

pow($solid_diameter/2),2)

I guess you mean

pow($solid_diameter/2, 2)

I gave it a try but, unfortunately, I'm still getting a parse error. If you have any other ideas, I'm certainly listening.

I finally found the source of the error and it was in the arrangement of the parentheses. I believe I'm using the arrangement you suggested. Below is the working code.

$solid_moment=$solid_weight*(pow($solid_diameter/2,2)/2);

$hollow_moment=$hollow_weight*((pow($hollow_od/2,2)+pow($hollow_id/2,2))/2);

I was surprised to find the problem in the parentheses. I'm not a great mathematician but I'm used to working with parentheses in Excel. Apparently I need to become a better mathematician.

hehe I know the feeling misplace one bracket and you can have weeks of fun trying to debug it :-)

I usually go back to the bare minimum of the statement and add bits untill it goes wrong again (or keeps going right) :-)

Funny you should mention that methodology because that's exactly what I wound up doing.
