userid cookie?

not sure how to do this.

I have a protected dir which users log in, then they have a passworded page afterwords. is it possible to capture that data and auto authenticate?

I know it's not secure but for learning this would be fun to play with.

I'd need to do 4 things:
1. since they saw the page, set page view=1 with time

2. capture the http_referer and do a if based statement to determine access level.

3. capture and store userid

4. capture and store password

As in basic HTTP auth? if so, the user name is $PHP_AUTH_USER and password is $PHP_AUTH_PW .
