XML display properly?

I've written a PHP script to retrieve data from a database and write it out in XML. problem is, when I read it, my browser thinks it's ... well, something else. HTML, I assume. If I save the source code as .xml and open it up, it views great. I understand that this is not technically a PHP coding question, but how do I configure my browser to check whether a file is actually XML (and display accordingly)? is this possible?

Your browser can't just display any xml, like it wouldn't recognise:

<bigfont>Hello</bigfont>

you have to parse the xml file first to convert it into it's html equivilent.

if you go to zend.com there are loads of scripts on there which parse xml files.

Hope this is of some use, if I have misunderstood the question please forgive me.

Add:

header('Content-type: text/xml');

to your PHP script (make sure it's before ANY other output) to tell your browser that XML content is on it's way. By default, text/html is sent, which is why your browser was trying to process it as HTML.
