GD JPEG & GIF

Dear Readers,

I would like to make thumbnails with GD, I made a script which works with JPEG. But I need a script which detects if the input file is either a JPEG, GIF, BMP or PNG. and output's it as a JPEG.

I tried something which a regular expression which cut's the last 4 characters. and check's if it is .jpg or .gif or .bmp

Assuming the variable used for the GIF file is named $file, use this:
