mySQL help!!

Hi all! Need some mySQL help. All I want to do is to read a column and find out what the highest value is. ie last.

the column is hold numerical data and increments by 1.

I know how to open the table...just not how to get the last value 🙁

You should probably be posting in the database help forum, but here you go:

SELECT numeric_field FROM table order by nemeric_field DESC

just to be clear:

SELECT numeric_field FROM table ORDER BY numeric_field DESC

If you only wanted the highest value, then you could use this.

SELECT numeric_field FROM table ORDER BY numeric_field DESC LIMIT 0, 1;

Just to clarify things - the last value is not necessarily the highest (I seem to recall a case where this happened even with an auto-increment column). If you need the max value of a column, you do a
<b>SELECT MAX(</b><i>column</i><b>) FROM</b><i>table</i>
