how to pass values?

hi,
im new to php and i have a problem. i am tryin to develop a message board and do not know how to pass values to another page.
i shall give an example...
i have a page which shows the number of messages posted every month. say 12 in jan 15 in feb, etc. i want to link the number 12 to another page which shows the messages that were posted on jan. the values that have to be passed are the month and the yr.
since i did not know how to do this, i have 12 different pages each corresponding to a particular month. is there another way. i know yu can pass values thru the url in asp, but how do yu do it in php?

Do this:

<a href="nextpage.php?num=<?=$date?>">Go next</a>

That will pass your variable along in the URL. To retrieve it just refer to the variable $num. e.g.

echo $num;

links are HTML, not PHP or ASP, you can populate the link with data from a script, but the link syntax is the same.

<a href="page.php?month=12&year=2002">

could you apply this same concept to a form value?

If I have an image and when you click on it it calls up a survey as say:
<a href="survey.php?imagename=12"> how could you get image=12 to show up in a form?

why wouldnt this work:
<input type=hidden name="image" value="<?php print($imagename); ?>" >

that would work, indeed, weazy.

index.php?page=5

<input type="hidden" name="page_no" value="<? echo "$page"; ?>">

would return a value of 5 for the form.
