Closing a database??

Is it absolutely neccessary to include

@mysql_close($db);

everytime you open a database. I have a bunch of scripts that open databases and run query's and i neglected to put the above command in my script. My scripts work fine! but should i use the close command? What happens, if anything, if i dont?

mySQL databases closes itselves automatically, but it's ALWAYS a good thing to do.

If you don't close an Oracle connection, for an example, the database will eventually crash because of too many opened connections.

When in doubt always close the connection.

When not in doubt close the connection too. 🙂
