Mysql select statement.. Large select

Hello all, I am having some major problem with this statement
it is a select statement
This is what I am searching on

sex: what is your sex
perfered sex: what sex you perfer
age1 limit search1-Could be any 18-99
age2 limit search2-Could be any 18-99
state all 50 states

This is the statement I have so far, but i get a error.

$query2 = \"select * from Login where Sex = \'$status2\' and Psex = \'$status1\' and Age > \'$age1\' and Age < \'$age2\' and State = \'$state\'\";

Here's what I would use.

$query2 = "SELECT * FROM Login WHERE Sex = \"$status2\" AND Psex = \"$status1\" AND Age > \"$age1\" AND Age < \"$age2\" AND State = \"$state\" ";

How do i get the value of any>???? like for the age field..
i have the statement
if ($age1 =="any")
{
$age1 = "";
}
$query = "select from Login UserInfo where Login.Sex = \"$status2\" AND Login.Psex = \"$status1\" AND UserInfo.Age > \"$age1\" and UserInfo.Age < \"$age2\" and UserInfo.State = \"$state\" referenced by Ref limit $offset,$limit";

I've used the >= sign instead of just the >, sorry forgot to put that in there. I've used it with dates and it has worked. Below is a select statement I use:

$query_hours = "SELECT hours,ot FROM hours WHERE badge=\"$badge\" AND day >= \"$start\" AND day <= \"$finish\" ";

where $start and $finish are dates.
