I'll like showing a progress bar when the user select an option in my page, because the operation is no very fast - sql database is not easy.

Well, you'd need to use the flush() command, but it doesn't work on all browsers. I'd read up on it. What is taking so long to process though? Unless it's a complex query on a huge database, I wouldn't imagine it taking too long.
