Birthday to Age

Dear Reader,

How to calculate someone's age from a birthday?

I Tried:

<?php
$birthday = "1984-10-11";
$today = Date(Y-m-d);

$age = $today - $birthday;

print $age;
?>

but this doesn't work correct. because it says I'm 18 🙂 while i'm still 17

"1984-10-11" is a string you can't subtract a string from a string.

the process will be more complicated that just subtracting the two. subtract the years and then compare month and day.

the easiest way to do this is convert both dates into unix time stamps, subtract their birthday from now, then convert back into human readable dates.
